Practical printing tips
- Print the PDF at 100% or Actual Size. Turn off “Fit to Page,” “Shrink to Printable Area,” and similar scaling settings unless the pattern specifically requires them.
- Print in the paper size stated by the file, commonly US Letter or A4. If the design is tiled across several pages, assemble the sheets using the alignment marks.
- Check a test square or ruler included on the page. Measure it with a physical ruler before cutting leather.
- Trace the paper pattern onto thin cardboard for a stronger, reusable template.
- Make a trial version from cardstock or inexpensive scrap leather, especially when working with an unfamiliar knife shape.
Keep the knife safely covered while testing the fit, and confirm that the finished sheath protects the blade and holds the knife securely. A careful paper test can prevent wasted leather and help you adjust the pattern for a more comfortable, dependable fit.
